Gems are a kind of item in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Gems are a precious material that can be used to improve our gear stats. Players can create Gems using Sagecrafting, found them as loot or purchase them from Merchants.

Gems can be used in two different ways. One way is to socket them into Weapons or Armor, but these must have a slot to be socketed with a Gem. On the other hand, Gems can be used to craft Weapons and Armor using Blacksmithing, which makes the gear take the effect of the Gem. The character has to reach level 7 in Blacksmithing to be able to craft equipment with Gems.

There are four types of gems, which can only be chosen while being crafted by players, but not when loot or purchased from Merchants. Each type of Gem can only be socketed in the equipment with a slot of the same type.

Gems can be socketed at a Sagecraft Altar, where Gems can also be crafted from Shards. Players need at least two Shards to create a Gem. At higher levels, players can use the Sagecraft Skill to remove Gems from sockets. Otherwise, a Sagecrafter will for a fee. Gems cannot be removed from crafted gear.

Utility Gems Description:

Utility Gems grants the character an improvement to his or her stats by enhancing damage dealt to enemies. Utility Gems can also be used to increase the character's maximum health and mana amount, as well as to improve regeneration bonuses for both. Utility Gems are made from a variety of Shards, which quality will define the quality of the gem to be crafted.

Utility Gems can be socketed into gear with Utility Gem slots. Unlike Weapon Gems, some Weapons and Armor can have more than one slot for Utility Gems. If  players wishes to remove Utility Gems, they can do so at a Sagecrafter for a cost, or at a Sagecraft Altar. To do so, players need to reach level 10 in Sagecraft Skill.

On the other hand, Utility Gems can also be used to forge Weapons and Armor using Blacksmithing, which will add a bonus to crafted gear. Once the gem is used to forge gear, it cannot be recovered.

Weapon Gems Description

Weapon Gems can be used to improve stats and grant bonuses to some Weapons. Although most Weapons have a slot for Weapon Gems, some others such as Staves, Scepters, and Chakrams do not and can only be socketed with Utility Gems. The Weapon that we want to get socketed, must have an empty Weapon Gem slot.

Once the Gem is placed, it can give the Weapon a bonus that will either grant an elemental damage or induce an status effect to enemies, or steal life and mana per hit from them. The bonus granted will vary based on the chosen Shards to craft the gem, as Shards Qualities, which are Cloudy, Lambent, and Pristine, affect the quality of the Gem.

If  players wishes to remove Weapon Gems, they can do so at a Sagecrafter for a cost, or at a Sagecraft Altar. To do so, players need to reach level 10 in Sagecraft Skill.

On the other hand, Weapon Gems can also be used to forge some Weapons using Blacksmithing, which will add a bonus to crafted gear. Once the Gem is used to forge the gear, it cannot be recovered.
