Blacksmithing is a Crafting Specialization in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Blacksmithing allows the player to both create and repair Weapons and Armor for all the three classes (Might, Finesse, and Sorcery) and to salvage Weapons and Armor to receive random Components from them.

Furthermore, at higher levels, Blacksmithing improves the use of Repair Kits. Forged Weapons and Armor lose durability while being used, if they are not repaired in due time, they will eventually break, rendering the equipment useless until it is properly repaired. Equipment can be repaired by using Repair Kits.

Additionally, Blacksmithing can also be used to salvage Components from all gear and reuse those items to forge new equipment.

Weapon and Gear Crafting Components in KoA: Re-Reckoning

In order to craft Weapons and Armor, players need to spend points on the Blacksmithing Skill, the higher the skill level, the more components the player can use to forge equipment. With each new Component unlocked, another attribute can be added to a Weapon or Armor piece, limited in application only by one's supplies of Components. Once players have reached level 7 on Blacksmithing, they can also use Gems as components to craft gear, granting a stat boost to forged equipment. Gems can be crafted with Sagecraft.

Players can use up to four Components and one Gem to craft Weapons or Armor. How many Components players can use are related to your Blacksmithing Skill level, the higher the skill, the more Components can be used to craft a single piece of equipment. Components vary depending on the type of equipment you are crafting. For example, crafting an Iron Longsword requires different Components than an Ebony Longbow. Furthermore, you also need to interact with a Blacksmith Forge to use as a Crafting station to create the desire Weapon or Armor.

Weapon and Gear Salvaged Components in KoA: Re-Reckoning

In addition to forging and repairing equipment, players can also perform Blacksmithing to salvage equipment and recover some of its parts. These parts can then be used to craft new Weapons and Armor you need. Salvaged items almost always return fewer Components than the number needed to make them. Each piece of equipment can be salvaged into four Components that depend on the equipment type. Three Components are common and one is uncommon.  Moreover, Gems used to craft equipment, are never returned from salvage.

While Core Components can always drop, the rest of the optional items that can drop can vary.
